Learning for kids

Peaceful Kids Program

Peaceful Kids is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based program to lessen anxiety and stress, and to increase resilience in children.

The program has been created to offer anxious children a developmentally appropriate way to learn new skills and learn to use coping strategies that lessen the symptoms of anxiety and stress.

This program helps children to build their emotional resilience so that they are better equipped to deal with the day to day stresses that life brings them.

The program involves parent or carer involvement and commitment to supporting the strategies at home

Program Structure:

Peaceful Kids is an 8-week program for a small group of primary or secondary aged children (4 to 6 kids only) for 1 hour per week.

Each session is approximately 1 hour and includes learning a range of coping strategies, problem solving as well as mindfulness activities, meditations and positive psychology exercises.

There is also a modified Peaceful Kids program for 4, 5 and 6 year olds. There are 5 sessions and each lasts 50 minutes.

Mindfulness and Stress

Research shows that after only an 8-week course of Mindfulness the amygdala (the brain's fight or flight centre) is actually smaller. The amygdala is the primal part of the bin which is associated with fear and emotion, and forms a part of the body's response to stress. This exciting research also shows that as the amygdala shrinks, the pre-frontal cortex grows thicker. This part of the brain helps with concentration, decision making and awareness.V
